Rev. Brett E. Voigt

Brett E. Voigt, age 62, of Menomonie, WI was brought home to heaven on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Comforts of Home, after a long battle with MS.

He was born March 7, 1961 in Beaver Dam, WI to Chester and Phyllis Voigt (Baerwald). He grew up in Hartford, WI and graduated from Northwestern Preparatory School, in Watertown, WI, in 1979. He graduated from Northwestern College, in Watertown, WI, in 1983. He attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, in Mequon, WI, and was ordained as a pastor in June 1987.

Brett married Karen Nelson June 8, 1985 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Green Bay, WI. He vicared in Waukesha, WI at Trinity Lutheran Church in 1985. He was assigned to serve and was ordained in Springville, NY at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in 1987. He accepted a call to serve at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 1996. Finally, he accepted the call to serve at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School in Menomonie, WI in 2001 where he served until he retired in 2019. Together they had five children. He enjoyed spending time with family, being outdoors, and gardening. In his youth he enjoyed waterskiing and was part of the local water skiing club in the Hartford area. He also enjoyed watching and talking about Sifi, especially Star Trek.

Brett is survived by his wife Karen of Knapp, WI; two daughters Deborah (Mike) Kopitzke, Mary Bare of Shakopee, MN; three sons David of Knapp, Matthew of Eagan, MN, and Timothy of Knapp. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, five nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Phyllis, and only brother Chester Jr.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Menomonie, WI with Pastor Roger Knepprath and Pastor Gene Jahnke officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 31, 2024 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Menomonie, WI. In lieu of flowers a memorial to Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary tuition assistance will be given.
