Curt S. Hoeft Obituary (1951

Curt S. Hoeft Curt Steven Hoeft of Menomonie died in his home on Wednesday, Feb. 24th. He was 58 years old. Born to Ed and Lois Hoeft on April 15, 1951 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Curt grew up in Omro, Wisconsin, the youngest of three sons. Curt graduated from Omro High School in 1969, where he participated in multiple sports, and school plays. He was also voted best looking in his class. When mentioned to him years later, he would joke that he wished he had known that before the end of the school year. Following high school, he attended college in Oshkosh. After graduation he was offered and accepted a teaching job at Prairie Farm High School where he taught for 15 years. He taught Social Studies, Drivers Education, coached girls basketball (where he had a winning record) and ran the school year book, all while attending night classes at UW Stout to obtain a Masters Degree. Curt was very artistic, and was a jack of all trades. He had an extraordinary talent for woodworking. He also had a significant role in building his house, along with personally building his shed, wiring the entire basement, re-modeling the basement, dry walling, painting, putting in an elaborate ceiling with stained-glass, installing a new bathroom (to include the plumbing), all while making sure that his grass was the greenest in the neighborhood. For most of his life Curt maintained a sizable garden, where neighbors were welcomed and encouraged to help themselves. Curt very much enjoyed watching the wild life around his home. He had multiple bird feeders as well as a city of bird houses in his yard, all built by himself. Upon visiting him, one would often get a breakdown of the various species that were currently residing. Especially if they was a new addition. In recent years, he took to feeding deer for the purpose of watching them. His creative soul is what drove him. Taking a job with a local apartment company, working in maintenance, allowed him to learn even more, expanding his ability to build, fix, and maintain, but especially to build. He prided himself on his ability to install and keep everything in his house running at peak performance. Curt is survived by his mother Lois of Omro, son Tyson of the US Military, daughter Carey of Eau Claire, son-in-law Jason Anhorn, granddaughter Ivy Hoeft-Anhorn, brother Terry Hoeft (Phyllis Campbell) of Rice Lake, brother Rick Hoeft (Jo Raimann-Hoeft) of Oshkosh, sister-in-law Mary Hoeft of Rice Lake, nieces, Kelly Hoeft of Madison, Whitney Hoeft of Canton, MS, and Casey Hoeft of Stevens Point, along with two great-nephews, one great-niece and his ever-loyal friend and neighbor Todd Tschumper and family. Curt will be missed. He was preceded in death by his father Edward Hoeft of Omro, and his nephew Ryan Hoeft of St. Louis Park, MN. Visitation is at Olson Funeral home in Menomonie from 11am to 1pm Sunday February 28, 2010 with a Time of Remembrance at 1pm.
