Dorothy L Smith

Dorothy L. Smith, age 98, of Menomonie, WI passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie.

The former Dorothy Louise Legge was born March 30, 1916 in Eau Claire County, WI to William and Olga (Frank) Legge. She attended school in the city of Eau Claire.

In 1934, Dorothy married Robert R. Smith. They purchased the Central Hotel on Broadway in Menomonie in 1946 and operated it along with a taxicab company and the greyhound bus depot until 1954. They built a home on Tainter Lake and lived in that vicinity until moving back to Menomonie in 1997.

Dorothy was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie.

Dorothy was an excellent quilter, sewer, and crafter. Her passion in life, however, was her flower gardens and especially her beloved irises.

Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Debra (Gary) Hauschildt of Laguna Vista, TX; two sons, Ronald (Sandy) Smith of Stillwater, MN and Billye Raye (Kris) Smith of Maryville, TN; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter, Beulah (Tom) Manor; parents and one sister.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie with Diaconal Minister Heather Kistner officiating. Burial will take place in Rose Hill Cemetery, Township of Dunn, Dunn Co. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
