Florence Meyer

Florence Elizabeth Meyer, age 94 of Wilson, WI died peacefully at her home with her family by her side, on Friday, November 1, 2013.

Florence was born on September 20, 1919 on the Kahl Family Farm near Holstein, IA to William and Laura (Kastner) Kahl. She was baptized on September 18, 1920 at St. Paul's Lutheran in Holstein. She was a graduate of Holstein High School and a local lawyer hired her as his secretary.

Florence married Marvin Holtz, a farmer and had three sons. After Marvin's death (1950) she and her sons moved to Galva, IA and she was a bookkeeper for the Galva Lumber Yard. In 1955, she married Edwin Meyer. Florence worked for the Galva Bank and pretty much ran it under her employer, retiring in 1982. She then proceeded to work for the Galva Post Office and would become Galva Post Mistress from 1983 to 1988.

After living and being active in the The American Legion Auxillary and St. John's Lutheran Church, both of Galva, for fifty-two years, she decided to move to Menomonie, Wisconsin to be near her family.

Florence enjoyed bible study, reading, music, shopping, cards, working in the kitchen and new friends. Learning and doing was an attribute instilled by her father.

She entered her final sleep with a peaceful smile on her face, knowing she was in the arms of Jesus Christ, her Good Shepherd and Saviour. Death is swallowed up in victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Florence is survived by two sons, Michael (Bonnie) Holtz of Wilson, WI and David (Laurie) Holtz of Reno, NV; nine grandchildren, Julie, Michelle, Jonathan, Emily, Annalynn, Carolyn, Matthew, Megen and Anthony; seventeen and one/half great grandchildren and one great great grandson; other relatives and many, many friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, William and Laura (Kastner) Kahl; husbands, Marvin, Holtz (1950) and Edwin Meyer (1991); one son, Kenneth (1963); one grandson, Jason Holtz (1998); and her four brothers.

A Memorial Service will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church in Menomonie, WI with Pastor Curtis Brooks officiating. A visitation will take place at the church from Noon until time of service. A second service will take place on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Galva, IA with Pastor Paul Egger officiating. Interment will follow this service at Hanover Cemetery in Hanover, IA.
