GERTRUDE M. BIRD

Gertrude M. Bird, age 89, of Menomonie, WI passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010 at Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.

The former Gertrude Marion Setter was born January 28, 1921 in the Town of Tiffany, Dunn County, Wisconsin to Louis and Velma Ruth (Bartle) Setter. She was raised in the Wheeler and Boyceville area and graduated from Dunn County Normal School.

Gertrude married William E. Bird on Dec. 20, 1941 in Wheeler. Together they farmed in the Wheeler and Menomonie area most of their lives. After her husband passed away in 1973, Gertrude returned to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for her teaching degree. She taught in elementary schools in Dunn County until her retirement in 1986.

Gertrude was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Menomonie and was also a volunteer at the hospital. She moved to the Oaks in 1999 and enjoyed several years there before going to the Dunn county Health Care Center where she has resided the past four years.

Gertrude is survived by:
A son William C. (Loretta) Bird of Salida, CO
A daughter Kathleen (Todd) Knusta of Baldwin
Four grandchildren, Robin, Angela, Jennifer and Clinten
Also survived by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William E. Bird, a brother William Setter and a son Donald Bird.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Menomonie, with Pastor Don Gribble officiating. Burial will be in Teegarden Cemetery in the Town of Lucas, Dunn Co., WI. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
