Joan Keller, age 79, of Menomonie, Wisconsin, died peacefully June 4, 2012, surrounded by her four daughters. \n \n She was born January 1, 1933, in Menomonie, Wisconsin, to George and Ruth (Ninas) Hintz. She attended Sunny Knoll grade school, Menomonie High School and Dunn County Normal. She taught school, grades kindergarten through 8th grade, for several years; was a stay-at-home mother to four daughters; and then managed the camera and jewelry department at K-Mart in Menomonie until she retired in 1997. \n \n She married Ronald Martinson in 1953; they were later divorced. She married John Keller in 1983. \n \n She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she enjoyed working with the archives and mission committees. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and looked forward to the annual Hintz-Witt Schuetzenfest. She also looked forward to going to local plays and band concerts, and volunteering for the Hospital Auxiliary and the Dunn County Historical Museum. She was past president of the Dunn County Genealogical Society and the Old Settler's Society. Her passion was helping others with their genealogy, as well as researching her own family history; she researched and wrote the Hintz-Witt family history dating back to the 18th century. In 2011 she was named Volunteer of the Year by the Dunn County Historical Society and in 2012 created many of the biographies of local historical figures for the Society's Memorial Day "Cemetery Walk." \n \n She is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, and her sisters Avis and Mona. She is survived by daughters Rhonda Martinson, Minneapolis; Ruth Martinson (Jon Steele), Menomonie; Pam (Todd) Utpadel, Downsville; and Patty Fassino (Gary Barone), Strum; stepchildren Jeff (Joanne) Keller, Menomonie; and Julie (Andy) Olson, Florida. Further survived by three grandchildren Guy Gusa (Amy Maly), Seattle; Jeniffer (Ben) Komro, Eau Claire; and Derek Fassino, Eau Claire; six step grandchildren Jeff Meixner, Jaden Leigh, Sarah Keller Hoover, Michael Keller, Tim Olson and Jennifer Olson; and five step great grandchildren. Also survived by niece Mary Hyland and nephew Roger Rowlette, sister-in-law Ann Hake and brother-in-law Roger Keller, and many other relatives and friends. \n \n Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Menomonie, with Pastor Don Wisner officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Menomonie, Dunn Co. Wisconsin.
