June (Ryder) Herreid (Conn, Neal) passed on Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Our House Assisted Living Center in Menomonie, WI. One of five daughters and surviving all of them, she was the 4th born on June 3, 1927 to William and Alice Ryder of Hibbing Minnesota. In 1947 she married James Conn and gave birth to two sons, James "Jim" and Colin. She and James Sr. parted in 1953 and she moved her young family from St Paul to Winona, Minnesota where, supported by her parents, she attended Winona State Teachers College. After graduating in 1958, she moved to Madison, Wisconsin where she taught first and second grades at Midvale, Spring Harbor and then Kennedy elementary schools. As a teacher, she was highly regarded and many parents sought her as a teacher for their children. In 1960 she married (and survived) Robert G. Herreid, who was also a popular teacher at both Central and LaFollette high schools in Madison. Together they brought Joan Herreid into this world. \n \n She loved animals; dogs, cats, even squirrels and including a fond attachment to her three horses. In her teenage years was Squire, a thorougbred animal as beautiful as she was. In later years she owned (and survived) Mesquito and Laddy, both wonderful animals who seemed to appreciate her as much as she did them. She became (actually, we all became) avid Packer Fans back in the early 60s, and she rarely missed watching a game as recently as last season. \n \n She is survived by her two sons, James Herreid of Menomonie and Colin (Susan) Conn of Madison, daughter Joan (Nathan) Rich of Menomonie, grandchildren Colin, Tyler (Hilary) and Quinn (Erin Weix) Conn; Isabel, Ingrid and Hayley Rich and great grandchild Cameron Mark Conn. \n \n Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie with Pastor Keith Schleis officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison.
