Kurt Harrison Newhall age 56 passed away December 14, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. \n \n Kurt was born on October 21, 1965, to Daniel and Nancy (Rokola) Newhall in Ypsilanti, Michigan. \n \n In 1978 Kurt moved with his family to Menomonie, WI. He graduated in 1984 from Menomonie high school. After high school Kurt took some time to travel. He enrolled at UW Stout in 1986. In 1991 Kurt won the UW Stout student artist in residence award for a photograph he took about war. This photograph was hung in the UW Stout library learning center. While at UW Stout Kurt enjoyed studying art. Some of his passions were photography, ceramics and the study of famous and not so famous artists. Kurt graduated in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in art. \n \n Kurt used his creative skills in his career as a self-employed carpenter. Many family and friends called on him for large and small jobs. Kurt helped his brother-in-law Andre build a cabin from the ground up. His career took him many places and introduced him to many interesting people. \n \n Kurt enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His nephew and nieces along with many extended family and friends considered him the older brother they never had. Playing card games, scrabble and board games were always a favorite. Taking long walks (usually at night), skiing/snowboarding, frisbee golf and fires on the beach were always on the list of things to do. Kurt could talk to anyone about anything. Kurt’s love of music from all genres made for some interesting listening times. \n \n Kurt is survived by brothers Mark (Lynn) and Peter (Shelly Jo); sister Melissa (Andre) Kraft; nieces, Allison Newhall, Kia (Connor Rabideau) Kraft, Megan (Devan) Yarmer, Elaine (Brett) Hall and Claire (Colton) Amundson; nephew Matthew Newhall; great nephews Bennett Hall, Troy and Trent Yarmer; aunt Doris (Rokola) Estola; also cousins and friends. \n \n Kurt was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Nancy (Rokola) Newhall; grandparents, aunt and uncles. \n \n A celebration of Kurt’s life will be held June 18, 2022, at the home of Melissa and Andre Kraft his sister and brother-in-law. \n \n In Kurt’s memory please plant a tree. \n \n Olson funeral home in Menomonie, WI is serving the family.
