Lester K. Zebro, age 85, of Elk Mound, formerly of the Baxterville area; died, Monday, Nov. 29, 2010 at his residence. \n \n He was born May 16, 1925 in Baxterville, WI to August & Emma (Thompson) Zebro. Lester loved the outdoors and even as a youngster enjoyed walking through the woods looking at all of nature's beauty. He kept this up all through his life going hunting and also mixing nature's herbs to create and experiment making "home remedies." He lived on the family farm and helped clear the land they farmed. He then had his own farm just down the road as did his 2 brothers. \n \n He grew up during the depression and would "collect" all sorts of things as times were hard. Lester was also interested in electronics and would work on tube radios and t.v.'s and also had a shortwave radio to listen to other countries particularly listening to world news and foreign music. His interest in the radio also expanded his love of music. He enjoyed polka's and old time singers and "tried" to play the guitar. As Lester grew older he lost most of his sight, but continued to write and sing "song/poems." His children refer to their father as "eccentric" which describes his personality as someone who always looked outside the box. His spirit still lives on in his children. \n \n He is survived by his 3 children, Jerry (Danielle) Zebro of Ridgeland, Sherry (Shawn) Thalacker of Eau Claire and Gena (Barry) Ketchum of Woodville; 4 grandchildren, Amelia & Kora Zebro and Derek & Samantha Ketchum; the mother of their children, Sharon Reinecke of Dallas, WI; many other relatives and friends. \n \n Preceding him in death were his parents; 2 brothers, Verlon and Gerald; and 1 sister, Mildred. \n \n Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI. Friends may call from 5 P.M. Thursday, until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Hay River Cemetery on Friday. Olson Funeral Home of Menomonie is serving the family.
