Lillian M. Hilson, age 94, of Menomonie, WI passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Menomonie, with her family by her side. \n \n The former Lillian Marjorie Torgerson was born May 15, 1918 in the Town of Red Cedar, Dunn Co. WI to Edward and Minnie (Knudson) Torgerson. She attended Little Elk Creek rural school, graduated from Dunn County Aggie in 1937 and Dunn County Normal Teachers College in 1939. She then taught in rural schools in Dunn County for a few years before her marriage. \n \n On May 20, 1944 Lillian married Sylvester Hilson at Little Elk Creek Lutheran Church. Lillian has been a life-long member of Little Elk Creek Lutheran Church and was active in the church women's group and a Sunday School teacher for many years. \n \n Lillian was a 4-H leader and active in the auxiliary of the Menomonie American Lutheran Home. She was also active in the Sons of Norway and very proud of her Norwegian ancestry. She and her husband were volunteers for "Meals on Wheels" for several years. \n \n Lillian was well known as an excellent Lefse maker, made homemade breads and did a lot of other baking as well as canning. She also enjoyed sewing. Lillian's family was very important to her and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. \n \n Lillian is survived by Sylvester, her husband of 68 years; her children, Eldon Hilson of Menomonie, Lois (Dave) Wieland of Indianola, IA, Lynnette (Dave) Smith of Menomonie; four grandchildren, Eric (Susan Stull) Wieland, Amy (Nick) Varcoe, Stacy (Jake) Bloom, Travis (Jen) Smith; five great-grandsons, Clayton Smith, Evan and Wyatt Varcoe, Maxwell Bloom, and Brecken Wieland; she is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. \n \n She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Minnie Togerson and her brother, John Torgerson. \n \n The family would like to thank the staff at Mayo Clinic Health System-Menomonie for their loving care of Lillian. \n \n Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Little Elk Creek Lutheran Church in the Town of Red Cedar, Dunn Co., WI with Pastor Dale Moe officiating. Burial will be in Froen Cemetery also in the Town of Red Cedar. There will be visitation from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
