Margaret Rose Lowry

–

Menomonie, Wisconsin

Margaret Rose Lowry, age 86, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013, at The Neighbors of Dunn County in Menomonie.

She was born in El Cajon, CA, on October 4, 1927, to Lloyd and Edna (Smith) Bowman. She was the second of four daughters. After WWII, Rose married Wallace Lowry, a marine from Eau Claire, WI; they moved back to his home. She worked at the Farmers Store in Eau Claire. Shortly after moving to Menomonie in 1952, she continued working for the Farmers Store at the Menomonie location. When the store closed, she received a position with the new store in that location, Consumers Cooperative, becoming assistant manager.

After Consumers Cooperative closed, Rose sought employment with the Dunn County Office on Aging, working in energy assistance and delivering meals to the High Rise and Knapp at which she was site manager. She retired from this position after her eightieth birthday.

Rose was president of the VFW Auxiliary for several years. An excellent seamstress, Rose sewed everything from draperies to three-piece suits. She liked to do crossword puzzles her entire life. She knew all the best places to eat in the area and visited them frequently. She enjoyed attending CVLR classes with her daughter Sharon. She loved her dogs Rebel and Jake and regularly fed the birds and squirrels in her yard, creating the fattest in the neighborhood.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon Lowry of Elk Mound, her sister Mary Thornton of Kamiah, ID, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wallace, sisters May Gannon and Dorothy Woods.

A celebration of Rose's life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire, WI at a later date.
