Margaret “Mardy” McMahon
August 10th 1933 - June 21st 2023

On Wednesday, June 21st, 2023, Margaret ”Mardy” McMahon, Loving Mother and dedicated Navy Wife, passed away at the age of 89.

Mardy was born on August 10th, 1933 to Otto & Velma Schmutz. Mardy grew up on a dairy farm in Eau Galle. She attended the Hay Creek one room schoolhouse, and she was able to ride her pony to and from school. She graduated from Durand High School.

She married Roland “Ace” McMahon on November 8th, 1952 after he returned from the Korean War, serving in the US Marine Corps. Later Ace joined the U.S. Navy and after he retired in 1974, they purchased the farm that she had grown up on and they resided there until 2018.

Mardy loved sewing clothes for her children, baking, gardening, watching the soap opera “Days of Our Lives“and spoke with her best friend Janice Knippel daily to discuss the plot twists. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble, cards, and her accordion. She had a love of the land and in addition to their farming, they raised produce for local stores, farm stands, and neighbors. Mardy enjoyed the community and friendship that selling to friends and neighbors brought. She was known for her painted pumpkins and scarecrows which were shared with everyone that came to visit.

She is survived by her four daughters, Marilyn & ( Phil Thompson ), Janet & ( Roger Lyson ), Sharon & ( Lyle Moritz ) and Susan & ( Dave Zuberbuehler ), 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Mardy was preceded in death by her husband Roland McMahon, her parents Otto and Velma Schmutz and her brother Robert Schmutz.

Come join us in celebrating Mardy’s life. Visitation will be held at Olson’s Funeral Home in Menomonie on Sunday, June 25th from 2 -5 p.m. with the funeral to follow on Monday, June 26th. Visitation at 10, Service at 11, followed by lunch and graveside dedication.
