Maria E. Larson, age 70 of Elmwood, WI died at her home on Monday, May 26, 2014 with her family by her side and comforted by Mayo Hospice. \n \n Maria was born July 25, 1943 in Hersey, WI to Erich and Irene (McCarthy) Bahr. She attended Boyceville Schools most of her life and was a High School Graduate of Menomonie. After graduating, she moved to St. Paul, MN and took a secretarial job at the state Capital and eventually became a legal secretary for Walter Mondale. \n \n On October 2, 1965 Maria married Dwayne "Dude" D. Larson. In 1979, she and Dwayne moved to St. Augustine, FL where they bought the Matador Motel; renamed it Larson's Lodge; renovated it and operated it until 1982. They returned to Menomonie in 1994. In 2004, Dwayne passed away and Maria eventually moved to Elmwood. \n \n Maria had her own business, Larson Reality and Brokerage in St. Augustine, FL. Over the years she acquired many rental properties and also worked as a secretary. She loved gardening and cooking and could always find a new recipe for you to try. Her genealogy collection was massive going way back in her family history. Maria was very proud of her grandchildren, and she enjoyed and was active in anything that had to do with them. They were the highlight of her life and she always said they were her greatest accomplishments. \n \n She is survived by two daughters, Dyane (Jeffrey) Hill of Elmwood and Lori Osteen of Elmwood; six grandchildren, Heather (Andrew Christiansen) Hill, Matthew Hill, Ashley Osteen, Amber Osteen, Chad Jr. Osteen and Amanda Osteen; one sister, Helena Hill; two brothers, Erich (Mary) Bahr and Harry Bahr; other relatives and many friends. \n \n Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Erich and Irene Bahr; her husband, Dwayne (2004); and an infant brother. \n \n A Celebration of Life will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. A private burial will take place at Tramway Cemetery, Menomonie Township, Dunn County, Wisconsin. \n \n Olson Funeral Home of Menomonie is serving the family.
