Mary I. Bowell

Mary I. Bowell, whose sunrise was July 25, 1946 in Menomonie and sunset was on January 13, 2024 surrounded by family at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, WI.

Mary grew up on a farm in Downsville with her parents, Amos and Huldah Smith; one sister and two brothers. Mary went to Twin Hill Elementary School and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1964.

Mary had a son, Brent, born on February 28, 1966, and married Duane Bowell on April 6, 1983. Through that marriage, she also “inherited” another son, Tony, and a daughter, Dinah. In between that time, Mary worked various jobs including ABC, Sanna Dairy, Sears, Doboy, Kmart, DHI, Phillips Plastics, and she finally retired in 2008.

Mary loved to travel and went to Las Vegas, Hawaii, Canada, just to name a few. She also enjoyed riding the trike, going to the casino, boating, fishing, watching the Packers and Badgers and cheering on her grandkids in any sport! Mary made home the best place to be and all were welcome. She was a fantastic cook and no one made a better potato salad or cookies than Mary! She loved her kitties and owls, but owls don’t make as good a pet as her many beloved kitties did.

Mary will be greatly missed by her husband, Duane; daughter Dinah Caswell, grandchildren Ivan and Yulia Caswell; son Tony (Jacque) Bowell, grandsons Triston and Mason Bowell; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her son, Brent; her parents, brothers Glenn and Amos; sisters Betty and Ada; and many kitties.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI. Burial will be at Cedar Falls Cemetery in the town of Red Cedar, Dunn County, Wisconsin in the spring.
