Merle B. Schultz, age 86, of Menomonie, died Tuesday, January 08, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire. \n \n Merle is the daughter of Elbert and Winogene (Fisher) Trainor. Merle attended Birthman Elementary School and graduated 12th grade from the Dunn County School of Agriculture. On June 14, 1947 she married John Richard Schultz. From this marriage two sons were born, Larry John Schultz and Roger Lynn Schultz. \n \n Merle worked for the Dunn County Agricultural Stabilization Service dealing with federal farm programs. After putting in 30 years she retired on September 1, 1985. Merle was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). She has also been a member of the Statue of Liberty Club since 1993, collecting many items over the years. Scrap booking was also one of her interests for many years; she has collected books and stories of JFK and his family since 1960. Merle was extremely proud of her Irish ancestry and had accumulated many books and pictures about Ireland which included several items from there. In 1986 she traveled to Ireland and got to visit many of the places she had only read and dreamed about. She was also a big fan of Vincent Van Gogh's art and in 2001 she went to the Chicago Museum of Art to view the world famous Van Gogh art collection from Amsterdam. \n \n Over the years, Merle corresponded by mail with many friends and relatives. On a special note, she kept close contact with Sandy Austin Stein, an artist from California, whom she was a pen-pal with for several years. Though they never met, they knew each other very well and often exchanged gifts on special occasions. \n \n Merle is survived by her son Larry \n Granddaughters, Jennifer Schultz and Jill (Rob Behringer) Schultz \n Grandsons, Russell Schultz and Mitchell Schultz \n Sisters, Lucille Werner, Janice Miller, Rosemary (Gilbert) Christianson, Kathleen (Bruce) Trinko \n Brothers, Robert (Mary) Trainor, John Trainor, Tom (Jo) Trainor \n Brother-in-law, John Woolley \n As well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends \n \n She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, son Roger, daughter-in-law Barbara Schultz, granddaughter Lindsey Schultz, brother William Trainor, sisters-in-law; Betty Trainor, Lorraine Trainor, Patricia Woolley, brothers-in-law; Eugene Schultz, Robert Schultz, Michael Schultz, Clarence Werner, Lester Miller, nieces Peggy Trainor and Kathy Kuesel \n \n A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2013 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie with Pastor Dave Whelan officiating . Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, family suggest memorials be made to either Peace Lutheran Cemetery Association, St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery Association, or G.F.W.C Menomonie Women's Club.
