Myrtle C. Hitz, age 95, of Menomonie, WI, passed away Friday, July 15, 2011 at Mayo Clinic Health System - Menomonie. \n \n The former Myrtle Clara Gralow was born November 9, 1915 in the Town of Emerald, St. Croix Co., WI, to Alfred and Martha (Ferg) Gralow. She was baptized in the Christian faith the following Thanksgiving Day. \n \n At an early age Myrtle moved with her parents to Woodville, WI where she attended public school and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church being confirmed in 1929. \n \n On October 10, 1940 she was united in marriage to Ferdinand Hitz at Decorah, Iowa. They made their home on a farm in the Town of Red Cedar, in the Little Elk Creek area, where she lived for fifty years. In 1991 she moved to an apartment in Menomonie. \n \n Myrtle was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church, in the church circle, 34 years as Cradle Roll secretary of the Sunday School and she helped with the sewing of well over a thousand quilts. She will be sadly missed her family and friends. \n \n Myrtle is survived by: \n A son, Norman (MaryAnn) Gralow of Woodville \n Two daughters, Ann (Charles) Sime of Hudson and \n Elaine Gueldner of Columbia, MO \n Seven grandchildren \n Five great-grandchildren \n Four great-great-grandchildren \n A niece, Frances Hardy and nephew, John Hitz \n Also survived by other relatives and friends. \n \n She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Martha Gralow, her husband Ferdinand, A great-great-grandson Dakota and a son-in-law Lyle Gueldner. \n \n Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie, with Pastor David Whelan officiating. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery in the Town of Menomonie. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
