Neil J. Schroeder, age 33, of Eau Claire formerly of Menomonie, died Monday, March 12, 2012 at Clairemont Nursing Facility in Eau Claire, following a long- term illness. \n \n He was born October 30, 1978 in Menomonie, WI to Jeffery D. and Lynn D (Hakamaki) Schroeder. Neil graduated from Menomonie High School in 1997, and then received a bachelor's degree in Political Science from U.W. Eau Claire in 2001. \n \n Prior to his illness, Neil was employed by the State of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development and had previously enjoyed working part-time as a police officer. \n \n Neil married Stacy Wirth on September 27, 2003 in Stanley, WI. They resided in Eau Claire and enjoyed spending time with their children. Neil was a wonderful young man who loved his family. He was kind and a joy to spend time with and will be sadly missed. He was also an avid sports fan and loved to golf. \n \n Neil is survived by his wife Stacy of Eau Claire; his two young children, Annabelle and Jack Schroeder; his father Jeffery (Mary Ann) Schroeder of Menomonie; two sisters, Jaime Schroeder of Huntington Beach, CA and Whitney Schroeder of Eau Claire; his maternal grandmother, Norma Hakamaki of Wakefield, MI; his paternal grandfather, David Schroeder of Downing; mother and father-in-law, Jim and Hatty Wirth of Stanley; a brother-in-law, Brian Wirth of Greenville, NC and sister-in-law, Stephanie Wirth of Eau Claire; he is also survived by many aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Neil's life was blessed with many wonderful friends. \n \n He was preceded in death by his mother, Lynn Schroeder; maternal grandfather, Eric Hakamaki and paternal grandmother, Shirley Schroeder. \n \n A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie, with Pastor Geoff Scott officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie is serving the family.
