Norman Nelson Obituary (1916

NORMAN M. NELSON Norman Malcolm Nelson, age 92, passed from this world into eternity to be with his Lord on December 28, 2008. Norman was born on June 3, 1916, to Nina (Bishop) and Melvin Nelson of Cameron, Wisconsin. He grew up in and around this village, graduating from high school in 1935. Norman joined the military in April, 1942. He was sent to Harlingen, TX for basic training. In November he entered OCS in Fargo, ND, and was commissioned as a 2nd LT in the U.S. Army in February, 1943. Norman had been introduced by a mutual friend to Crystal Myrick in 1942. They married on February 6, 1943 at Trinity in Elk Mound. They were sent to Baltimore, MD; Ft. Eustis, VA (promoted to 1st. LT); and then to Camp Kilmer, NJ, where he was promoted to Captain. After his honorable discharge in 1946, they made their home in Elk Mound. Norman worked for National Presto Industries for the next 12 � years, while buying milk routes. He hauled milk from farmers to creameries for many years. He began Elk Mound Trailer Sales in the 1960's and in 1971 opened Nelson's Mobile Home court in Elk Mound. Norman was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. There was nothing he would not do for his family. Some of the many interests that he shared with them were horses, camping, gardening, blackberry picking, and playing cards, especially cribbage. Norman and crystal spent 33 retirement winters in Homosassa Springs, FL where they had many dear friends on Sesame Street. Norman was a charter member of the Elk Mound Area Lions Club and had an associate membership in Homosassa, FL. He was active in Elk Mound until he and Crystal moved to Comforts of Home in Chippewa Falls in December of 2004. His family is very appreciative of the loving care he received there. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 65 years Crystal, his wife's parents, sister-in-law Mary Nelson and brother-in-law Vincent Myrick. Norman is survived by his devoted daughter and son-in-law Normetta and David Hurlburt, Elk Mound; three grandchildren: Debra (Tony) Misura, Hudson; Angela (Scott) Markquardt, Elk Mound; and Mark Hurlburt, Minneapolis, MN; his five great-grandchildren: Cody, Logan and Madalena Misura; Maxwell and Susan Marquardt. He is further survived by his brother Byron, Bayport, MN; his sister and brother-in-law Winnifred and Everett "Bud" Wheeler, Elk Mound; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie on Friday, January 2, 2009. The funeral services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church (where he has been a member since 1946), 105 S. Holly Ave., Elk Mound, with Pastor Dean Brockmeier officiating on Saturday at 11:00 AM January 3, 2009.
