Olive M. Daley, age 90, of Menomonie, WI passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 at The Neighbors of Dunn County. \n \n The former Olive M. Hovlid was born March 27, 1924 in Menomonie, WI to Helmer and Sophie (Freseth) Hovlid. She grew up in the Knapp and Menomonie area, graduating from Menomonie High School in 1942. \n \n Olive joined the U.S. Navy in 1944, where she met her husband to be, Frank C. Daley Jr., while they were packing parachutes across from each other. Olive and Frank were married on Jan. 28, 1946 in Olathe, Kansas. After they were both discharged from the Navy, they lived in Poughkeepsie, NY for two years before moving to Menomonie where they continued to live, work and raise their five children. \n \n Olive was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie and a member of the Ladies Aide for many years. \n \n She loved to quilt, crochet, knit, sew and read. Olive made many beautiful quilts for her family and was very humble about her many talents. Olive and Frank took many trips back to New York to visit relatives. They also did a lot of camping with their family when they were younger. Olive learned a lot about hunting and fishing and how to make wild game taste “not too bad”. She was a member of “The Lady Bugs” sewing group and really enjoyed working on projects with the group until she wasn’t able because of her health. \n \n Olive dearly loved her family and friends and often reminisced about how families got together on Sundays for a wonderful meal and to visit. \n \n Olive is survived by her sons, James Daley of Idaho, William Daley of Colfax, WI, and Robert Daley of Idaho; daughters, Jo (John) Klatt of Menomonie, Mary Daley of Elk Mound, and wonderful friend Gail Martin; six grandsons, Brent Daley( Jessica) of Idaho, Corey Daley (Rayna) of Kentucky, Mike Daley (Kara) of Washington State, Scot Daley (Jennifer) of Colorado, Sean Daley (Melissa) of Georgia and Patrick Daley of Florida; 10 great-grandchildren; a niece Nancy (Dave) Sakry and nephews, Jeff Hovlid (Nancy), Kevin and Bruce Quiel of New York, Greg Quiel of N. Carolina; one sister-in-law Elizabeth Quiel (Norman) of New York. \n \n She was preceded in death by her husband Frank; parents Helmer and Sophie Hovlid; her brother Donald, Nephew Kevin Hovlid, and many other relatives and friends. \n \n Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, with Pastor Geoff Scott officiating. Burial will be in Tramway Cemetery in the Town of Menomonie, Dunn Co. WI with military honors by Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard. There will be visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
