Sylvia M. (Jensen) Grutt, age 85, of Prospect Heights, IL, formerly of Menomonie, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on November 23rd, 2013 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois. \n \n Sylvia Marie was born in Dunn County on November 23rd, 1928 to Emil and Carolena Jensen in the town of Menomonie, Wisconsin. Being born and raised in the town of Menomonie, she always considered it to be her home. \n \n Sylvia married the late Delvin Grutt on May 31st, 1947 and together they had one child, a daughter Gloria. They soon moved to Racine, Wisconsin and on July 1st, 1957 Sylvia made a courageous move on her own to the city of Chicago and later to the northwest suburbs. Since the time of that move her life was dedicated to her career as a waitress and the hard work she put in to build her life and provide for her family. \n \n Sylvia was baptized at home on December 23rd, 1928, and confirmed on May 24th, 1942 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Menomonie. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Menomonie, and Grace Lutheran Church in Chicago. On June 15th, 1975 Sylvia moved her membership back to New Hope Lutheran Church in Downsville, Wisconsin. \n \n Sylvia was a graceful and selfless woman who always put her family and friends before herself. She was an incredibly religious and devoted follower of Christ, and it was through this faith that she was able to possess such strength and confidence in her daily life. \n \n Sylvia is survived by her loving daughter Gloria Rossi; grandchildren John (Joanna), and Joy Rossi; great-grandchildren Noah and Liam Rossi; brothers Harold (Bea) Jensen, and Robert Jensen; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. \n \n She was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Carolena Jensen; her sister Arlene Holts; and her brother Carl Jensen. \n \n Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Downsville with Pastor Dale Moe officiating. Burial will take place in Grand View Cemetery, Township of Dunn, Dunn Co, WI. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
