Walter "Skip" F. Ebert, age 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2013 at his home, in the Township of Weston, Dunn County, WI. \n \n Skip was born on September 15, 1930 to Walter and Frances (Safford) Ebert in Menomonie. He attended East Elementary School and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1948. He attended Stout from 1948 to 1950. \n \n Skip was very proud of his four years of service in the U.S. Navy. He served on the USS Wisconsin and was honorably discharged as Fireman 1st Class in 1955. \n \n On April 3, 1956, Skip married Marlene Greene at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a life member of the VFW and held active memberships with: Irvington Booster Club, Irvington ATV Riders Association and Trails North ATV Club. Skip was a charter member of Irvington-Weston Snowmobile Club and was also the last surviving member of the Country Old Times dance band. \n \n Skip was a man of many talents. He was a musician in the dance band for many years playing the mandolin/violin, piano accordion and keyboard. Skip was a very talented woodworker, especially with his scroll saw. His favorite hobbies and pastimes were hunting and fishing, riding snowmobile and 4-wheeler, listening to and playing music and spending time at the cabin with family and friends. \n \n Skip is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marlene; daughter, Lynn Ebert \n Brother-in-law John Greene, sisters-in-law Mary (Richard) McIntyre and Jane Greene-Wear \n Nieces and nephews, Tim (Shonnah) McIntyre, Michelle Markgraf, Corey Greene and Jesse Greene \n Special cousin Terry Lee Safford \n Two special dogs, Hobo and Cricket \n As well as many other relatives and friends \n \n He was preceded in death by his parents, son Craig, brother-in-law Gary Greene and a niece Suzie Snorek. \n \n Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2013 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Menomonie with Pastor Brett Voigt officiating. Burial will take place in St. Paul's Cemetery, Menomonie, WI with military honors by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
